Henry Ford

 

Henry Ford is Amerika's meest bekende industriële voorloper en uitvinder van de Ford Model T auto en oprichter van de Ford Motor Company.

Ford had geen interesse in de familie farm en hij begon zijn zoektocht als aankomend machinist in Detroit.

Hij bleek gepassioneerd te zijn voor mechanica en werd leerjongen bij de Edison Illuminating Compancy, daar werd hij later hoofd ingenieur.

Omdat hij kon beschikken over voldoende financiële middelen, kon hij zich allerlei privé experimenten veroorloven.

Op 16 juni 1903 richtte Henry Ford de Ford Motor Company op. Hij ontwikkelde de lopende band productiemethode om z'n auto te bouwen. Dat had niet alleen op de auto industrie een grote impact. Hij kon door zijn voorzienende blik ook de grote economische neergang de baas, als een van de weinige.

Zijn eerste auto die hij thuis in Detroit in 1896 bouwde was de Quadricycle.

De twee cylinder met 4 PK, in plaats van 2 wielen heeft deze er vier. De aandrijving was met een ketting. De versnelling had maar 2 standen, de eerste tot 16 km/u en de tweede tot 32 km/u. Achteruit was niet uitgevoerd. Een rem was niet uitgevoerd, met de voet op het wiel moest worden afgeremd. Onder de zitting was de 11 liter benzinetank aangebracht. De Quadricycle is in het Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan te bewonderen.
